There’s Something About Sweetie and Inside Out: A Comparison

In the book “there’s something about sweetie” the authors tell the story of a boy called Ashsh who was cheated by his girlfriend, and in “Inside Out” the author tells the story of a boy, Francisco, who went to school for the first time without knowing  how to speak english, both Francisco and Ashish, became insecure about socializing, and this had a big influence on their personality. Francisco wanted to socialize with the other students, the guys who speak English and Ashish wanted to date a girl who was much more popular than him, so they both want to relate with people who are more powerful, Francisco had problems because he change his country and school, but Ashsh is on the same country and school since ever.

They both faced many problems socializing with people around, and this affected them negatively, they became insecure and very shy. Francisco became like that because he had never been in school before, so everything was so known to him, and he felt like the people around were always judging him because of his English knowledge . Ashish is afraid to love someone again, his old girlfriend hurt him so much inside, so he is traumatized, the author includes “so you enter her dorm room only to find she’d done with some other dude” it means his girlfriend cheated on him and he felt very frustrated about this, his parents don’t want him to date girls, so he can focus in studying and in basketball, but he wanted to date a specific girl.

Ashish wanted to ask Dana, a cheerleader from his school, to hang out with her, but she was with Thad, the most beautiful guy of the school, the authors mention a conversation between Ashish and his friends: “I thought that the whole thing with Thad was supposed to be temporary” the readers may understand that Ashish have no chances with Dana, Ashish wasn’t even popular enough to date her. Francisco was very lonely, and because he spoke another language the other guys couldn’t communicate with him. Francisco seemed friendly, but there was no way to prove it to his classmates, just to Arthur, who spoke spanish.

Francisco had a hard time getting out of his comfort zone, he was known in that school, and no one even tried to make him feel comfortable, the people can’t even understand what he said. The author includes: “But when I spoke to Arthur in Spanish and Miss Scalapino heard me, she said “NO!” with body and soul.“That can mean Miss Scalapino  doesn’t want Francisco to speak Spanish in class, he also said that even Arthur avoided him whenever their teacher was around, so not even Arthur make him comfortable. In the other side, Ashish always felt comfortable on his school, Ashish comment with his friends that he was very sad and his friend Oliver said “come on Ashish tell your friend here, what’s wrong, you know you can count on us” so his friends was always supporting him all the time, even when he was cheated.

We can conclude that Francisco and Ashish are similar because of their personality, but different because of their difficulties. The readers may understand that on “There something About Sweetie” the main idea is that sometimes the people around you can make everything easier on the baddest moments. And in “Inside Out” the readers may understand that the main idea is that you don’t need any one who cares about you, to care about others.
