There’s Something About Sweetie and Inside Out: A Comparison

In the book “there’s something about sweetie” the authors tell the story of a boy called Ashsh who was cheated by his girlfriend, and in “Inside Out” the author tells the story of a boy, Francisco, who went to school for the first time without knowing  how to speak english, both Francisco and Ashish, became insecure about socializing, and this had a big influence on their personality. Francisco wanted to socialize with the other students, the guys who speak English and Ashish wanted to date a girl who was much more popular than him, so they both want to relate with people who are more powerful, Francisco had problems because he change his country and school, but Ashsh is on the same country and school since ever.

They both faced many problems socializing with people around, and this affected them negatively, they became insecure and very shy. Francisco became like that because he had never been in school before, so everything was so known to him, and he felt like the people around were always judging him because of his English knowledge . Ashish is afraid to love someone again, his old girlfriend hurt him so much inside, so he is traumatized, the author includes “so you enter her dorm room only to find she’d done with some other dude” it means his girlfriend cheated on him and he felt very frustrated about this, his parents don’t want him to date girls, so he can focus in studying and in basketball, but he wanted to date a specific girl.

Ashish wanted to ask Dana, a cheerleader from his school, to hang out with her, but she was with Thad, the most beautiful guy of the school, the authors mention a conversation between Ashish and his friends: “I thought that the whole thing with Thad was supposed to be temporary” the readers may understand that Ashish have no chances with Dana, Ashish wasn’t even popular enough to date her. Francisco was very lonely, and because he spoke another language the other guys couldn’t communicate with him. Francisco seemed friendly, but there was no way to prove it to his classmates, just to Arthur, who spoke spanish.

Francisco had a hard time getting out of his comfort zone, he was known in that school, and no one even tried to make him feel comfortable, the people can’t even understand what he said. The author includes: “But when I spoke to Arthur in Spanish and Miss Scalapino heard me, she said “NO!” with body and soul.“That can mean Miss Scalapino  doesn’t want Francisco to speak Spanish in class, he also said that even Arthur avoided him whenever their teacher was around, so not even Arthur make him comfortable. In the other side, Ashish always felt comfortable on his school, Ashish comment with his friends that he was very sad and his friend Oliver said “come on Ashish tell your friend here, what’s wrong, you know you can count on us” so his friends was always supporting him all the time, even when he was cheated.

We can conclude that Francisco and Ashish are similar because of their personality, but different because of their difficulties. The readers may understand that on “There something About Sweetie” the main idea is that sometimes the people around you can make everything easier on the baddest moments. And in “Inside Out” the readers may understand that the main idea is that you don’t need any one who cares about you, to care about others.

“Sammy Keyes and the Sisters of Mercy” and “Inside Out”: A Comparison

In the book “Sammy Keyes” the author Wendelin Van Draanen, tells about a girl that doesn’t have a father and her mother dumped her at Grams’ so she could run off Hollywood and become a movie star, and about two weeks later Sammy starts studying at a born school, and the principal is accusing her of stealing his cross, and she tries to prove that she is innocent. However, in the book “Inside Out” Francisco, the protagonist, is a Mexican boy that moved to the United States with no understanding about English, and when he went school for the first time he didn’t understand anything that his classmates and teachers were saying. Both Francisco and Sammy are persistent because Sammy wants to prove that she isn’t a thief, and Francisco is trying to learn english by himself, but they act differently in all their acts, for example: Francisco is shy, and he likes to be alone, however, Sammy is extroverted and she likes to talk with everybody, but both of them are in new places and they are not familiarized with their new houses, so they faced some problems because the people that they would have to conceive with still didn’t trust them, and they were different from the others they didn’t socialize so well.

Did you ever think that you have a specific problem to solve and no one has this problem?  Francisco in “Inside Out” and Sammy in “Sammy Keyes and the Sisters of Mercy” feel this way about different problems. Francisco feels like this because he is a Spanish speaker ,but he lives in the U.S.A. and at his first time at school in 1st grade, everybody knew how to speak English ,but he didn’t, so he doesn’t understand anything that the teachers and his classmates say. However, Sammy feels like this because she needs to prove that she didn’t steal the cross of the principal, Father Mayhew, and he is accusing her for no reasons, just because she is new and he doesn’t trust her.

One of the strongest traits of Sammy is that she is extroverted, she likes to talk with everybody and she doesn’t care about what people think about her, like when she is painting the wall of the Father Mayhew’s office and she meet Sister Bernice she talked with her like they already know each other for more than one year. But on the other hand Francisco is shy and he has some problems with self confidence because he went to school for the first time and everything it’s new for him and no one understands what he says and he doesn’t understand what his classmates are saying so they can’t talk to each other. So they are really different in this aspect of personality.

In our world we don’t always get what we want at a snap of a finger, sometimes we have to be persistent to get something, and that’s not always easy, sometimes we have to prove something or even submit ourselves to things we never imagined we would. And when you’re persistent, It’s good, because you won’t give up easily on what you want. This trait is present in both characters, even though Sammy and Francisco have completely different personalities, they are both persistent with what they want. Even Francisco did not understand anything the people at his school did, and with no support to learn English he didn’t give up and always that the teacher was saying he paid attention, closed his eyes and tried to imagine what the words that Miss Callapino was saying. Similarly, Sammy was being accused of stealing the cross of Father Mayhew and she started an investigation to prove that she isn’t a thief and that she would not give up until she has concrete proof that she didn’t do that and until she discovers who really stole the cross.

With this we can conclude that they are very different in their personalities and the way they act. However Sammy and Francisco have some similarities too, because they both are in new places and they faced some problem in these new places like every single person, but their problem is not like a day to day problem, and even though they are children they found a solution.  The readers may understand that in “Sammy Keyes and the Sisters of Mercy” the main idea is that in your life you will always have some obstacles, but you can’t give up on what you want because of them, and sometimes you will have to go through them alone. And in “Inside Out” the readers may understand that the main idea is that you won’t always be able to solve a problem easily, but even if you can’t solve the problem quickly, you will get through it even if it takes time.

OCDaniel and “Inside Out”: A Comparison

You can imagine if you ever think about something and you don’t do this thing three times you will never be happy again? This is what happened with the character Daniel. And in the story “Inside Out” the character Francisco has trouble with english but his school is all in english.  In both stories they have some traits, like, they have some different traits, like in Francisco’s story, Francisco is shy, because he dont like to talk with other people, and Daniel isn’t so shy, and he wants to make more friends but people don’t accept him in their group. In the part of relationship, we have in one hand francisco that have one friend, and his friend know a little bit of spanish and in another hand have Daniel that has one friend too, Daniel’s friend is popular, because he is on the main team of soccer. And at least one we have the conflicts that they have internal and external. In Francisco’s story he has an external conflict with another person that is the tough guy of his classroom, because they have a fight and in Daniel’s story he has an internal conflict with his own self that can give to him an external conflict with someone.

The traits they have similar is that both of them isn’t popular and this can affect on his relationship with other people in his school and he has one friend, but his friend is popular, because his friend is in the main team of football and Daniel isn’t in the main team, similar to OCDaniel, in Francisco’s story he isn’t popular too, because he don’t know how to speak english and his school is all in english. So the two stories, both of the main characters are not popular in their school. One of them because he is not on the main team and the other one because of english community.

In both stories the main character has some good and some bad relationships. In OCDaniel story, he have one friend that is popular, they relationship is good, but Daniel think if he stops to play football they relationship will be affected, because Max is on the main team of football and he loves football. And in Francisco’s story he have just one friend too, but his friend isn’t popular on their school and they are friends, because his friend knows a little bit of spanish.

Inside a story there are some conflicts, being internal or being external. In Daniel’s story he have an internal conflict, because of his mental disabilities, so this is the conflict because of his problem he can affect on the school or in something important in his life, someone can like be bullying him or making fun of him too,so his internal conflict can give to him an external conflict differently in Francisco’s story he have an external conflict because he have a fight with a boy, but after Francisco give’s to Curtis that is the name of the boy he first drawing that he wins the competition of drawing. And in his classroom and he dont know english he just know spanish, and in his school and this can be a problem to him because he school is all english this is the cause to he have just one friend but after ha have two friends:Arthur, and after Curtis.

In both of the books they have some differences and similarities. in traits they have just similarities ,like they have in the traits similarities, because both of them are that both of the characters aren’t popular in the school. In the relationship they have similarities, like both of them have just one friend, but in OCDaniel his friend is popular and in Francisco’s story his friend is not popular too like Francisco. And in the last one that is internal and external conflicts they have differences, because in OCDaniel’s story he has an internal conflict that can give to him an external conflict and in Francisco’s story he just has the external conflict.

Family Ties and Inside Out: A Comparison

Kevin, from Family Ties by Gary Paulsen, and Francisco, from Inside Out by Francisco Jiménez, have almost nothing in common, like the way they react towards school and the lessons they learn. Kevin does ok even though he is a bit overloaded with work while Francisco feels anxious about school because he does not know English. And Kevin learns that current relationships are often unstable though Francisco learns that compassion can lead to positive relationships. But they both try to have a good relationship with people around them, like when Kevin tries to get Tina to like him romantically or Francisco tries to make his teacher like him academically or be friends with Curtis. They may have almost nothing in common, but they try to have a good relationship with other characters.

Kevin and Francisco act differently towards school, for example, Francisco feel’s nervous about school because he had never gone to school but he did not know English “I did not speak or understand English either, and I already felt anxious.”. But Kevin acts in a different way, in social studies, they are making pairs to make “families”, and he paired up with Katie, and he overloads himself with work to get extra credit and he thinks that if he is a good “husband” to Katie, she will tell Connie and she will tell Tina that he is a good husband and know that he is a family man “However… Katie if friends with Connie and Connie is friends with Tina, and if I turn out to be an awesome pretend husband, then Katie will tell Connie and Connie will tell Tina and Tina will see me as a family man”. As you can see, they act differently towards school.

The theme of Family Ties and Inside Out are also different, the theme for Family Ties is that nowadays relationships are often unstable but the theme for Inside Out is that compassion can lead to a positive relationship. In Family Ties, the theme is shown throughout the whole story, for example, when there are 2 weddings going on and all the family members are coming to Kevin’s house and it gets crowded, the dog makes noise all night, etc. But the lesson of Inside Out is shown when the principal gives Francisco the green jacket, or when Francisco was feeling embarrassed and when he laid his head down the teacher lets him and Francisco shows compassion to Curtis by giving him the drawing he made. The theme is different and they learn different lessons.

Now, even with all those differences, they still have one thing in common, and that thing is that they try to have a good relationship with people around them. Kevin tries to have a good relationship with Tina romantically, he tries to make his family get along so she can see him as a family man. And Francisco tries to get Curtis to like him as a friend when he gives him his drawing. As you can see, they both want to have a good and positive relationship with people around them.

Kevin and Francisco have nothing in common, but the one similarity is that they try to have a good relationship with people around them. Some of the things they don’t have in common is their theme, that they learn different lessons, and the way they react towards school. Kevin is overloaded with work and Francisco is anxious about school, but they try to have a good relationship with people around them. Though they have one thing in common, they still have almost nothing i

Out of my Mind and “Inside Out”: A Comparison

Have you ever heard of a person that can see colors for different types of music? Comparing two main characters, Melody, the main character from the book Out of my mind by Sharon M Draper, is a mute girl, she can’t walk and can see colors of types of music, like Jazz sounds like brown to her. The other Francisco, from Inside Out by Francisco Jiménez, is in an American school but he does not know how to speak english. Francisco and Melody feel different levels of power, but both have a positive relationship with their families and have similar social issues.

One thing that they are different is how they act toward power or have power. Melody is mute but she doesn’t act like she has less power, because she just stays with her parents that they respect her and she doesn’t go to school, for example when Melody’s mother protects her from the Doctor Hugely. So Melody doesn’t feel powerless.  On the other hand Francisco feels powerless because he can’t speak English in an American school so he just makes one friend which is Arthur that knows a little bit of Spanish and doesn’t understand Miss Scalapino that prohibit Francisco to say in Spanish with Arthur,”But when I spoke to Arthur in Spanish and Miss Scalapino heard me, she said “NO!”

Something they have in common is the positive relationship with their families. Melody listens to music with her parents, her parents make jokes to make her laugh, her mother protects her saying that she is more intelligent than the Doctor Hugely, who is the doctor that treats her, “And  what’s more, I think you are wrong—-I know you are! Melody has more brains hidden in her head than you’ll ever have, despite those fancy degrees from fancy schools you’ve got posted all over your walls!”. Francisco in the classroom dreamed that he would fly to where his father works to surprise him, so he has a good imagination about his father, “Sometimes I imagined myself flying out of the classroom and over the fields where Papá worked and landing next to him and surprising him”.

Another thing that they have in common is that both suffer from communication  disabilities. Francisco’s disability is that he can’t speak English, so he can’t communicate with his classmates and doesn’t understand them, for example when Miss Scalapino read stories to the class the books that have illustrations are easier to understand, “It was easier when Miss Scalapino read to the class from a book with illustrations because I made up my own stories, in Spanish, based on the pictures”.Melody’s disability is that she can’t speak because is mute and can’t say important things, like when she wanted to show that the blocks of the toy section are dangerous, “I didn’t want the blocks. I want to tell her they were dangerous”. The difference is that Francisco doesn’t understand what others are saying, while Melody understands what other people are saying.

When comparing and contrasting the main characters of the stories Inside Out by Francisco Jiménez and Out of my mind by Sharon M Draper, it is possible to notice that they are different in power level. Francisco is powerless and Melody is not, Melody just stays with her parents so they respect her, and Francisco is powerless in school because he doesn’t speak English. They are common in their positive relationships with their families, Melody’s mother protects her from the doctor, and Francisco dream to surprise his father. The last one is a similarity is about social issues, Francisco and Melody both suffer with communication disabilities, but Francisco doesn’t understand what the other is saying, while Melody understands.

The fire girl and “Inside Out” a comparison

In the story “Inside Out by Francisco Jiménez and The fire girl by Tony Abbott ,Tom and Francisco are not popular and don’t have a lot of friends , but Tom thinks of girls differently.

Tom thinks differently of Francisco , talking about girls .On page 16 Tom kind of dreams about saving Courtney and says really good things about girls. When Tom talks about girls he always says that he doesn’t have a lot of friends. That shows that he is a little bit similar to Francisco, both don’t have friends.

Having friends is not easy , Tom and Francisco Know this. Francisco is a new boy in a new school that he entered in the middle of the year and just to make it worse, he only speaks spanish , but on the other hand we have Tom that is not popular because of his way . Tom is considered boring. He just has one friend , like Francisco, who has Arthur .

All of us know that popularity is not an easy thing to conquer, both Tom  and Francisco know this. Francisco was not popular because of language and Tom because of his personality. We see that the personality of Tom is not a good one, all of the bad things that happened to him are because of his personality .Popularity is one thing that you conquer without friends.

Not having friends and not being popular are similarities and think definitely of girls is a difference . But in general all of them are similar

Liar, Liar and “Inside Out”: A comparison

In the book Liar, Liar and in the short story Inside Out are wonderful fictions written by Gary Paulsen and Francisco Jiménez, respectively. There are differences and similarities of traits, relationships, conflicts, power and social issues. In Liar, Liar, Kevin is a lying boy that pretends to be a person that he isn’t and lies to everyone, mainly for Tina – the girl who he was falling in love with. In the story Inside Out by Francisco Jiménez, the main character Francisco is a Mexican boy who moved to the USA. He had problems speaking in English and had to deal with them. Some of the aspects that are different in both books are that the characters act differently over the situation that they were going through, the conflict that is present in both stories, the power imbalance that existed in the community and the social issues of self acceptance and language communication. The similarities are that both main characters want to improve their relationships with the people around them.

In both books the main character’s traits are different. In Liar, Liar, Kevin lies in some situations that had to go through, mainly when he had fallen in love with Tina and to conquer her, he thought that needs to lie. He said “Liars like me”. In Inside Out, Francisco acts differently, when Ms. Scalapino reads a story, but Francisco doesn’t know english, so he looks at the images of the book, but as he could not read the story, he made up his own story in spanish based on the images he saw. The conflicts are also different. In Liar, Liar, readers can notice the conflict when Kevin asks Tina’s friends what Tina likes to do and her preferences. Some time later, Kevin acts as if he also likes the same things as her and Tina starts to be interested in him but all is a big lie because in reality, he doesn’t like these things. In the book Inside Out, the conflict is that Francisco entered the school but his school just has classes in English and Francisco doesn’t know English, only Spanish, because he is a Mexican boy.

The power imbalance in the books are different. In Liar, Liar Kevin has more power over the people that he lies to because he pretends to be a person that he isn’t. Kevin, when lies to Tina, thinks that he will conquer her. On the other hand, Francisco has less power than Ms. Scalapino, his teacher, because she can speak English but Francisco cannot communicate with any people in the school except for Arthur because he speaks a little spanish. The social issues in both books are different. In the book Liar, Liar, the social issue is self-acceptance, because Kevin has difficulty entering in the community, because he can only lie. In Inside Out, the social issue is language communication because Francisco doesn’t know how to speak English and he moved to another country that doesn’t speak your language. He is excluded from the community and passes through many difficulties.

One point that readers can see a similarity is that Francisco and Kevin tried to improve their relationships with people that were around them. Kevin tries to improve his relationship with people around him by lying but at least he tries to do something. Kevin thinks he had to lie to stay friendly with each other and be included in the community. Francisco also tries to improve his relationship with people around him by trying to learn English but it is complicated for him to communicate. Roberto – Francisco’s brother – helps him in the school and teaches English to him because he knows a little bit.

Both Francisco and Kevin try to improve the relationship between people around them. Kevin does it by lying and Francisco by trying to learn English. Kevin is a boy that needs to lie to earn things. On the other hand, Francisco doesn’t need to lie to conquer anything, he is  just dedicating himself. Kevin has more power than others because when he lies he pretends to be a person that he isn’t. However Francisco has less power than Ms. Scalapino because Ms. Scalapino can communicate with school but Francisco cannot. The social issue present in Inside Out is the language communication because Francisco has difficulty communicating with other people who don’t speak Spanish. However the social issue in Liar, Liar is self-acceptance because Kevin had difficulty entering the community by just lying. The third body paragraph has one similarity. The similarity is that Francisco and Kevin try to improve their relationship between people around them. Francisco tries to improve the relationship by trying to learn English and Kevin tries lying. The lesson readers can learn is that it’s important to relate to different people, but lying can also push them away.

One Speck of Truth and ”Inside Out”: A Comparison

In the book One speck of truth, Caela Carter wrote about Alma, who is a young girl that lost her dad when she was just a baby. She passes many family troubles with her mother and that is one of the most important aspects in the story. Francisco from the book Inside Out came from a really poor family, he is a non-english speaker and that will make him suffer in his first days of school. Differently from Alma he seems to have a good and trustful relationship with his family, Francisco told his parents when he fought with Curtis and  they helped him. On the other hand Alma doesn’t even talk to her mother, because she isolates herself. She is also a really dedicated student, her mother values education in an extreme way, giving Alma all the opportunities that she can (sometimes pressuring her daughter). Else, Francisco came from a really poor family that couldn’t offer him a school education since he was a young kid. Both characters are affected by their low power levels, even if they are caused for different reasons, but  they interfare in a similar way, making them have a repressed attitude from some specific persons.

Alma’s relationship with her mother is mostly caused by the lack of attention that her mother gives her, she spends many nights at Julia’s house (who is her best friend). On page 28-29 Alma says: “I should be standing with my own mother. Instead, Julia and I flank her mother inside her front door while mine stands on the stoop outside.” That shows that she wishes to spend some time with her mother. On the other hand, Francisco’s family seems to care about him. One example of that is on his first day of school, when his mother bought new clothes for him. We can also notice the respect and admiration that Francisco feels about his dad when he said: “Papá always wore a cap and I did not feel completely dressed for school without it.” There is a huge difference between both relationships, Alma and her mother don’t demonstrate affection, but in Francisco’s case care and love are things that we can observe.

Alma is a very pressured kid, because her mother doesn’t let her make questions and she needs to follow many rules to be a “good girl” according to her mom. Alma always needs to be the best student and play the best music at the piano, but all of that makes her feel her mother doesn’t accept or like the way she is. However, one interesting thing is that instead of feeling uncomfortable at the piano, she actually loves that place. She explains that feeling on page 23, saying: “I sit down at the piano that’s pushed against the wall of our dining room. This is the most peaceful spot in our house for me. It’s the only place I can be myself without hiding.” The piano relaxes her and makes her abstract the daily routine of pressure, but after that she connects the peaceful feeling to the rules and posture of her mother, saying: “Mom loves that I love the piano. Of course she has a whole list of rules about how much I must practice and which pieces I should learn to expand my talent. But I never mind these rules.” Totally different from Alma, Francisco didn’t have the opportunity of going to school before the first grade. In his family the only one who had already studied was his brother (Roberto), so he didn’t suffer all  that pressure that Alma did.

In both stories, Francisco and Alma are negatively affected by their low power levels. Their attitudes are controlled by their power conditions, for example: Alma is an only child and she is considered too young to her mother, so she never knows what is happening, or even what happened in her past. That’s because her mother never answers her questions, so that makes Alma curious and that also interferes in her relationship with mother, because she can’t express herself. This explains Alma’s attitude of always thinking she is a ”bad girl” and a bad friend. Like her, Francisco had a really low power level at the beginning of the book. In his case that happened, because he moved to the United States and being a non English speaker he couldn’t communicate with the other students and with the teacher, so starting relationships was really difficult for him. He was lucky to meet a boy in his class that could speak Spanish, so he was able to play and enjoy some moments at school. But at the end of the book, the teacher included him in the class with his drawings (that show that he is very creative) so this opened a “door” for more relationships for him, even with Curtis (who received Francisco’s drawing as a gift).

In both of the books, the main characters pass through many complicated situations, family troubles, language and low power level relationships. Some of them are similar, others are totally different, but Francisco and Alma react in similar ways. They find creative solutions for their problems, like writing questions that she can’t ask, or looking at the images in a book and creating a new story. These characters have similarities and differences, so an interesting thing to do while reading is to compare and contrast traits, relationships, conflicts and more.

Lucky Broken girl and “Inside out”: A Comparison

In Lucky Broken girl by Ruth Behar, the main character Ruthie is a cuban girl that moved with her family to the United States. Ruthie is a non-english speaker, Francisco, the main character of “Inside Out” by Francisco Jiménez, is a non-english speaker too, who moved to the “Tent City”, because of the work of the parents, and like Ruthie he faces challenges with the language. But both are very persistent, however they act in different ways. Like in Lucky Broken girl, it is more obvious that the main character Ruthie has this trait, because she convinced her teacher to go to the smart class, and because she is more extroverted. On the other hand Francisco doesn’t demonstrate, it is not obvious that he has this personality, because he is more shy.

The first similarity is that Francisco and Ruthie are non-english speakers and spanish-speakers. Both faces many challenges with the language, mostly at school, and they are less powerful because of this. For example, Francisco doesn’t understand anything that his teacher Miss Scalapino says, and readers can see this at the moment of the story time, that Francisco makes up his own story based on the images. Another thing is that he only made friends that speak Spanish, because he thinks that it is easier to have a friend who speaks the same language as him. Ruthie faces the same challenges, interact with other childrens, understanding the classes, etc. We can see this in the part that Ruthie enter to the “dumb class”, just because she don’t speak english. She explains her feelings about this, in pages 1 and 2: “Most of the kids know I’m in this class because I’m from another country, not because I really belong there. Or maybe I do belong there? It’s been eight months since school started and our teacher promised I wouldn’t be in the class for long. Im not dumb. I am not dumb. I am not dumb…” During the story Ruthie is evolving and finally going to the “smart class”. So we can observe that both have problems with language, both are non-english speakers and moved to a new country, the United States.

The second similarity is that Ruthie and Francisco are persistent in the story but act in different ways. Ruthie demonstrates this personality and Francisco too, but in Ruthie’s story, readers can read the book and know that she is persistent, because she tries, and tries so hard to get into the smart class, which by that point was your goal in the United States. Francisco has this strong personality too, but readers can just see this in the part where he enters in the classroom, because even with many kids looking at him and laughing, he continues in the school, striving to understand the classes and trying to make friends. Then, we can observe and understand that both act in different ways, even with the same characteristic.

One difference is that Francisco is shy and Ruthie is extroverted. Ruthie has more friends at the beginning of the story, even though she moved to another country with a different language. She talks to everyone and this is very important for her development. Francisco is more shy, talks less and doesn’t have friends. But in the middle of the two stories everything changes. In Ruthie’s story, after the accident, she has no friends anymore, because everyone has forgotten her. On the other hand in Francisco’s story, when Ruthie loses all her friends, he starts to interact with a boy who speaks Spanish, and that interaction makes his recess better (he makes a friend). Even Curtis, who was Francisco’s “enemy”, ended up becoming his friend, just by the simple act of Francisco delivering the drawing to Curtis, thus making peace. Consequently, both, even if they move to a new city and to a new school, even with different personalities, at a moment in the story, they make friends.

In both books, the main characters moved to another country, with a different language and this was very difficult for them. Francisco and Ruhtie find the same way to solve this, to be persistent. But this was not the only difficulty that they passed, another complicated situation was to make friends. This trouble was solved in the end and it was easier for Ruthie, because she is more extroverted, on the other hand for Francisco was more difficult, because he is more shy. We can see that the characters have similarities and differences, so an interesting thing to do while you are reading is to compare and contrast.
